Commissions

The strength of a commission is largely dependant on the quality of the reference material.

It is always helpful if you supply a number of photographs of the subject you want painted, or if there is only one, that it is of as good a standard as possible.

Lighting is an integral part of a painting. The same lighting in the reference photo's will come out in the painting.

Portraits of people and animals are best taken in the shade with good indirect side lighting.

If you want a painting that is a composite of two or more photo's then the lighting and direction of the light must be the same in all photo's. Eg. You cannot have some subjects in strong light or with shadows and others in soft light.

The painting will be done in the style of a typical Ian Campbell painting. If there is a particular one of Ian's originals of which you like the style, please mention it as a reference point.

Do you want the entire picture to be represented acurately?

Do you want an arty/vague background?

Copyright and plagiarism laws prevent one from copying another artists paintings or from painting photo's

from magazines or other public sources.

Commissioned paintings are priced based on the size and the amount of detail in the subject matter.
